Despite having friends as close as brothers among fellow defectors, Cheol-jun— a young North Korean defector—always felt isolated, forced to hide his true gay identity. But for the first time in his life, he summons the courage to step into South Korea’s vibrant gay community. After meeting Yeong-jun at a casual drinking gathering, Cheol-jun quickly finds his footing and forms deep bonds with his new peers. Yet, a single, trivial misunderstanding soon sends shockwaves through these delicate, fragile relationships, threatening the community he’s come to cherish. This film not only reveals the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, but also reflects the marginalized experiences of North Korean defectors in a new society. Through its unique intertwining of political exile and gender identity, the work resonates widely and has garnered recognition at major film festivals.
